The stage is set at Headingley, Leeds, where England and India will kick off their five-match Test series on Friday. While England look to consolidate their rising form under skipper Ben Stokes, India will feel the impact of missing two of their senior batsmen, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Both Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket ahead of the series. In their absence, young players will need to rise to the occasion.

The series will also mark the start of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle for both sides. India, meanwhile, will rely heavily on Jasprit Bumrah to lead the attack. However, England skipper Ben Stokes asserted that there is no fear in the England camp surrounding Bumrah, as they are ready to face the premier pacer.

“No fear, I don’t think one bowler alone is going to win the series for either team. All 11 [players] have to stand up. I don’t think there is just one person in either team holding the key to success,” Ben Stokes said ahead of the first Test.

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah has a breathtaking record against England in Test matches. He has picked up 60 wickets in 14 games he has played against England.
