Indian captain Gill shines with first century as captain

Indian skipper Shubman Gill produced a sensational performance on Day 1 of India's first Test against England, notching up his first century as India's Test captain in front of a roaring crowd at Headingley. Captain Gill announced himself with a fearless knock, charging on England bowlers with huge confidence. Gill slammed his century from 140 balls, putting India in a very dominant position.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal gave India a rollicking start, bringing up his hundred from 144 balls. With the century, Jaiswal became the first Indian player to slam a century in both Australia and England in his first Test match. Meanwhile, England skipper Ben Stokes had decided to bowl after winning the toss.
