Najmul Hossain Shanto has stepped down as Bangladesh Test captain following the series loss against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh lost the second Test against Sri Lanka on Saturday in Colombo by an innings and 78 runs to lose the series 0-1.

“I don’t want to continue [as captain] in the Test format anymore. This is not personal. I have taken the decision for the betterment of the team,” Shanto said during the post-match press conference.

Recently, Mehidy Hasan Miraz replaced Shanto as Bangladesh’s ODI captain. And Litton Das was named the team’s T20I captain.

Shanto, meanwhile, had a fruitful series against Sri Lanka, racking up 300 runs across both matches. He had fired twin centuries in the first Test, scoring 148 and 125 across both innings. He managed 8 and 19 runs in the second Test.
