“I can't see my favourite journalist”: Shubman Gill’s jibe at England journalist

Captain Shubman Gill was in a jovial mood after India outskilled England in the second Test to complete an amazing 336-run win on Sunday at Edgbaston. Indian bowlers Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep led England’s demolition, folding them for 271 in their chase of 608. Notably, India, who were, ahead of the second Test, doubted whether they would be able to challenge England in the second Test considering their crushing defeat in the first Test at Headingley, stunned the English side with their first Test victory at Edgbaston.

Even an England journalist had expressed doubts ahead of the second Test, highlighting India’s poor record at Edgbaston. Meanwhile, in the post-match press conference, Indian captain Shubman Gill took a jibe at the journalist, who had pointed out India’s barren record.

"I can't see my favourite journalist. Where is he? I actually wanted to see him," Gill said during the post-match press conference.

"I even said before the Test match that I don't really believe in history and stats. Over the last 56 years or so, we've played nine matches - different teams have come here. I believe we are the best team to have come here in England, and we have the capability to beat them, to win the series from here. If we keep making the right decisions and keep fighting, I think it would be one of the series to remember," he said.

In the second Test, Indian skipper Shubman Gill also performed a key role with the bat, firing a career-best score of 269. The attention will now switch to the third Test, which begins on Thursday at Lord’s.
