“I was tired”: Bumrah on his muted celebration

India’s superstar pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a vintage performance on day two of the ongoing third Test against England at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground, returning with impressive figures of 5 for 74. In doing so, he etched his name deeper into cricketing history, surpassing the legendary Kapil Dev for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in overseas Test matches.

Bumrah’s stifling bowling helped India keep the proceedings under control. Despite claiming five wickets, Bumrah’s celebration was quite modest, prompting speculation about his mood. However, in the post-day press conference, Bumrah clarified the reason for his muted celebration.

“The reality is that I was tired. There was no happiness factor missing. I bowled for a long time, and sometimes I get tired,” Bumrah said during the press conference.

“I’m not 21-22 anymore that I’ll jump around. I was happy I contributed—other than that, I just wanted to get back to my mark and bowl the next ball,” he added.

Bumrah’s sharp spell helped India bowl England out for 387 in their first innings. He dismissed Ben Stokes, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer. Meanwhile, India finished day two on 3-145 in response to England's 387. India lost their top-order batters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Karun Nair and Shubman Gill cheaply.
