“There is a lot of time for me to decide”: MS Dhoni on his future in IPL

The next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is still months away, but one question still continues to dominate the headlines: will MS Dhoni play the IPL 2026 or not? There have been speculations surrounding MS Dhoni’s future in the IPL; however, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter has time and again reiterated his deep bond with CSK. With every new season, speculation about his retirement builds, and 2026 is no different.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni is one of the most influential figures in the IPL, not just for his masterful batting or lightning-quick wicketkeeping abilities but also for the enigmatic aura he carries. Recently, speaking at a private event in Chennai, MS Dhoni, touching upon his future in the IPL, maintained that there is still a lot of time for him to decide.
“I have always said that there is a lot of time for me to decide, but if you are asking about coming back in a yellow jersey, I will always be in a yellow jersey, whether I am playing or not is a different thing,” Dhoni said during an event.
“Me and CSK, we are together. You know, even for the next 15-20 years. I hope they don't think I'll be playing for another 15-20 years."
MS Dhoni has been representing Chennai Super Kings (CSK) since the first IPL season back in 2008. Under his leadership, CSK have won five IPL titles. CSK, however, endured a disappointing season at the IPL 2025, finishing at the bottom with four wins from 14 games.
