"Hard work paying off": Shami after staggering spell in domestic cricket

With a staggering demonstration of bowling performance, Mohammed Shami helped Bengal seal their second consecutive win in the 2025‑26 Ranji Trophy. He returned with 5 for 38, bagging his 13th first-class five-for as Bengal thrashed Gujarat by 144 runs. With a telling spell, Shami delivered a reminder of his fitness as well because he had reportedly been left out of England tour due to fitness concerns.
Meanwhile, he finished with eight wickets in the match across 28.3 overs. Shami, who has endured a challenging period following injuries and questions about his workload, entered this phase of the domestic season with something to prove.
"Grateful for the rhythm and hard work paying off. Always proud to represent my team," Shami wrote on Instagram.
Mohammed Shami, one of India’s premier fast bowlers over recent years, has found himself outside the selection radar in the past few months. He himself has spoken openly about his exclusion, clarifying that his fitness was in good shape, pointing out that he had bowled significant overs in domestic cricket.
On the other hand, chief selector Ajit Agarakar had said that Shami’s exclusion was tied to fitness concerns. But his latest performance in the domestic cricket has announced his readiness.
