Kolkata Knight Riders have appointed Abhishek Nayar as the new head coach of the team, succeeding Chandrakant Pandit, who parted ways with the franchise following the conclusion of the IPL 2025 campaign. Nayar has enjoyed a long association with KKR, having served in various roles. He was part of the backroom staff alongside current India head coach Gautam Gambhir when KKR won their third IPL title in 2024.

"Abhishek has been a vital part of the Knight Riders setup since 2018, shaping our players both on and off the field. His understanding of the game and connection with players have been key to our growth. We're thrilled to see him take over as head coach and lead KKR into its next chapter," KKR CEO Venky Mysore said in a statement.

Nayar is often credited with discovering young talents like Rinku Singh and Harshit Rana. In 2024, he also served as the assistant coach of the Indian menโ€™s cricket team under head coach Gautam Gambhir. However, his tenure was short-lived following team India's underwhelming outings in the Test format.

Earlier this year in July, Nayar also took up the head coach role at the UP Warriorz in Women's Premier League. KKR, meanwhile, had a disappointing campaign last season, finishing eighth in the points table with just five wins.
