Indian star Shreyas Iyer has been discharged from hospital in Sydney after receiving treatment for a serious injury sustained during the third ODI against Australia. The incident occurred on 25 October 2025, during the third ODI between India and Australia in Sydney.

Iyer hurt himself while fielding after running back to take a catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He landed awkwardly on his left side, hurting his rib cage. Although discharged from hospital, Iyer will remain in Sydney for follow-up consultations before being cleared to fly back home.

“He is now stable and recovering well. The BCCI Medical Team, along with specialists in Sydney and India, are pleased with his recovery, and he has been discharged from the hospital today. The BCCI extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Kouroush Haghigi and his team in Sydney, along with Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in India, for ensuring Shreyas received the best treatment for his injury. Shreyas will continue to stay in Sydney for follow-up consultations and will return to India once he is deemed fit to fly,” the BCCI said in a release.

Talking about team India, they are currently locked in a five-match T20I series against Australia, which Australia are leading 1-0 after beating India in the second game. The first game had been washed out due to persistent rainfall.
