'Ravindra Jadeja will have to win matches with batting': Gautam Gambhir ahead of the World Cup
ODI World Cup 2023 is approaching fast with all teams having ramped up their preparations for the eagerly awaited tournament. The World Cup will be held in India as it is scheduled to commence from 5th October with the first match between England and New Zealand at Narendra Modi Stadium in Hyderabad. India’s preparations for the ODI World Cup are in full swing as they recently emerged victorious in the Asia Cup 2023 by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets. India received collective performance from their players in the recently concluded Asia Cup which makes them quite strong going into the World Cup.
Injuries have also played their perfect role in giving headache to Indian management. Meanwhile, India are also scheduled to play three-match ODI series against Australia ahead of the ODI World Cup where India have decided to rest few players and give chance to few. Team India look into good rhythm but former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir pointed out Ravindra Jadeja’s batting. Jadeja has played massive role for the team with his bowling and fielding.
“We know he (Jadeja) can bowl 10 overs on any given day on any surface. He is an amazing fielder but he will have to contribute better as a batter at No.7 because you cannot go in with just six batters,” said Gambhir on Star Sports.
“If Ishan Kishan plays at No.5, there are question marks there as well. So Ravindra Jadeja will have to win matches with batting because you might have a situation where you need 80 or 90 runs in 10 overs and the No.6 and No.7 batters might be playing together,” stated Gambhir.
