ENG vs IRE 1st ODI: Match abandoned without a ball being bowled
Both teams waited eagerly to get into action in their opening match of the three-match ODI series on Wednesday but it could not be possible due to persistent rainfall. There was delay in the toss as it was expected that rain would relent but eventually match had to be be abandoned due to rain. This was also the only ODI for England’s senior batter Joe Root ahead of the World Cup but it remained only in papers for Root. Earlier, Root had requested England management to include him into England’s squad for the first ODI against Ireland to get into the rhythm for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Both teams will now meet on Saturday for the second match.
