Former Indian cricketer Explains reason behind Sanju Samson's World Cup exclusion
There was a lot of pushback against Indian management for not including Sanju Samson in the ODI World Cup squad. Furthermore, Samson was also not in India’s squad for the three-match series against Australia which is coming just days ahead of the World Cup. Recently, India played the Asia Cup where Samson travelled as the back-up option but once KL Rahul was fit and joined team, Samson was released. Ishan Kishan has been coming up with solid performances that helped him solidify his place and India had Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul available for selection for the World Cup as both of them are wicketkeeper-batters.
KL Rahul too had made great comeback to action after recovering from injury. Rahul had scored a century in the Asia Cup. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, while speaking on his YouTube Channel, gave his reason as to why Sanju Samson missed out.
“Sanju Samson’s exclusion has raised a lot of debates. If you average 55 in ODIs and still don’t be a part of the squad, then definitely that’s strange. But I think Sanju wasn’t selected because India already had two wicketkeepers, KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan. Both are also a part of the World Cup squad,” Harbhajan said.
