World Cup 2023: Pakistan confront Sri Lanka

Feeling confident from their previous win, Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in their second match of the World Cup on Tuesday at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Pakistan had met Netherlands in their first match of the World Cup where they had beaten Netherlands by (81) runs to get to a great start. Pakistan will need to do a lot of thinking after openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam-Ul-haq failed to deliver and fell cheaply. Even, skipper Babar Azam couldn’t showcase his skills after losing his wicket on (5 off 18). If it wasn’t for Rizwan and Saud Shakeel, who both delivered the knocks of (68) and (68) respectively to put the team in the driver’s seat, Pakistan wouldn't have been able to get a modest total. In the bowling unit, Haris Rauf and Hasan Ali claimed three and two wickets respectively. Going into this match, Pakistan would hope to find advancement in their performance after not being up to the standrads in the last game.

Sri Lanka, on the other hand, suffered a huge defeat in their first match of the tournament against South Africa. Sri Lanka were completely suppressed by the centuries from Aiden Markram, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen. The trio came together to score their centuries to take South Africa to the highest total of (428) in the World Cup history. In their chase of the total, Sri Lanka lost opening wickets of Pathum Nissanka and kushal Perera really early but Kusal Mendis and Charith Asalanka fought hard for the team but South Africa’s bowling beat their hopes. In a big boost to Sri Lanka’s bowling attack, there is likely chances of Maheesh Theeshana playing the match against Pakistan.

Pakistan Probable XI: Fakhar Zaman, Imam ul Haq, Babar Azam (c), Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Nawaz, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf.

Sri Lanka Probable XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Perera, Kusal Mendis (wk), Sadira Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjay de Silva, Dasun Shanaka (c), Dunith Wellalage/Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Mathisha Pathirana, Dilshan Madushanka.
