WI vs ENG 1st T20I: Andre Russell makes an emphatic comeback as West Indies beat England
Andre Russell made a resounding comeback to hand West Indies their lead-taking victory in the first T20I match against England on Wednesday at Kensington Oval in Barbados. Russel returned with three scalps to cripple England’s already under-pressure lineup to bring a four-wicket win for West Indies. Put into bat, England recorded a sizzling start with Phil Salt playing a quick-fire knock of (40) off (20) which was coupled with Buttler’s (39) off (31) innings that provided the team with a good start. But, Andre Russell’s exemplary skills with the ball hit hard England as their positive start turned into a drastic one. Alzarri Joseph and Romario Shepherd from the other end gave a comprehensive support with their three and two wickets respectively to bowl out England for (171) (19.3) overs. Chasing the total, West Indie basked under the brisk start from Brandon King (22) off (12) and Kyle Mayers (35) off (21) to rub the salt on England’s wounds. Shai Hope remained in his elements with his (36 off 30). Down the order, Rovman Powell and Andre Russell paired to create a 49-run partnership off (21) balls to guide the side to a bolstering win. There were some encouraging signs for England, however, with Rehan Ahmed and Adil Rashid returning with three and two wickets each.
