Former Indian cricketer's prediction about Rohit Sharma leading India at T20 World Cup 2024

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has returned to the setup after India’s squad for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan was announced on Sunday. Rohit has got back to the Indian side for the shorter format of the game for the first time since the T20I World Cup 2022. Hardik Pandya has led team India in T20Is since Rohit Sharma made his absence from the game after T20I World Cup 2022.
For the Afghanistan series, not only Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli has also made his return to the team. He too was away from T20Is since T20I World Cup in 2022. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has said that Rohit Sharma’s return to lead the team against Afghanistan implies that he will lead the team during the upcoming T20I World Cup. For the Afghanistan series, Hardik Pandya has been ruled out due to an ankle injury.
“Rohit is now the captain and I feel he will be the captain in the World Cup as well. I feel this was a landmark selection, because if Rohit remains captain, he will play the World Cup. If he plays the World Cup, then he will be the captain,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
Chopra also said that Rohit Sharma will lead the team even if Hardik Pandya returns to the side.
“Don’t think that Hardik will become captain once he is back. I can almost give it in writing. I can’t guarantee anything but the chances are very less that Rohit will be there and won’t be the captain,” said Chopra.
