Cameron Green excited for the No.4 position
Australia’s young batter Cameron Green had thought himself to be the direct replacement to retiring David Warner to open the innings for Australia in the upcoming Test series against West Indies. But, Green was elevated to the No.4 spot after Steve Smith was promoted to the opener role after he requested the selectors to promote him to the opener role. Meanwhile, Green was excited and grateful for his No.4 slot after coming to know about Smith's elevation to the top order last week.
“I’m very excited. I’ve let all the guys know obviously how much I love playing at No.4, and I’m obviously grateful for the opportunity to be able to do that,” Green said while speaking to media on Monday.
“I had no idea until about Wednesday. I was so excited when I heard the news. I thought I was about a 95 per cent chance of opening, so that’s where my head went for a couple of weeks.
“They (selectors) didn’t say anything. I was biding my time, and I was like, well, I might as well get my skills up just in case, and they let me know just to prepare like you normally would.
Green feels that being at No.4, he is going to adapt to his own technique to play his natural game.
“I don’t feel any pressure. Obviously, replacing someone like Steve is pretty tough. But I’m just going to play my way. I’m obviously grateful for him putting that in his mind and thinking of me,” Green said.
