AUS vs WI 1st Test day 3: Khawaja cops a nasty blow as Australia win by 10 wickets

Leading a resounding performance from their bowlers, in particular and batters, Australia emerged victorious against the West Indies in the 1st Test match at Adelaide Oval, routing the visitors by 10 wickets to lead a commanding win to take 1-0 lead. It turned out to be a comprehensive win for Australia that came at ease. Australia's bowling attack led by Josh Hazlewood and pat Cummins left the West Indies struggling to match their opponents' intensity.
But, Australiaās win might have come at a heavy cost after their solid opener Usman Khawaja was struck on the chin by the bouncer from West Indies debutant Shamar Joseph. It appeared to be a serious blow with Khawaja spitting out blood. Australia were just chasing a total of 26, which they pulled off just ahead of the lunch. It was a short ball from Shamar Joseph that struck Khawaja on the helmet. Khawaja, unable to decide between evading or defending, suffered a nasty blow to his jaw.
In the match summary, Australia had decided to bowl after winning the toss, bowling out West Indies for 188 in the first innings with Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins returning with four wickets each. In their first Innings, Australia notched up 283, with Travis Head guiding the side to a competitive score with his 119-run knock. Australia restricted West Indies to 120 in the second innings, which helped visitors set the mere total of 26. In the chase, Australiaās opening pair of Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja brought team a victory. Khawaja had retired hurt.
