AUS vs WI 1st ODI: Grandiose batting from Smith and Green help Australia record an emphatic win
In an exciting encounter, Australia emerged victorious by thrashing West Indies in the first ODI of the three-match series to secure an eight-wicket win at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. The match saw the complete dominance from Australia, led by evergreen Steve Smith, with noteworthy performances from Josh Inglis, Cameron Green and Steve Smith in the batting department. Three of whom led the batting charge for Australia with their scores of (65), (77*) and (79*) respectively.
Australia's mesmerising batting was nothing short of spectacular, as they went past West Indies' target of (231) with ease in (38.3) overs. The trio of Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, and Steve Smith played match-winning roles for the team in their successful run chase, each contributing with sounding knocks.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Inglis marked a great start for Australia in their chase with his sweet knock, exhibiting perfect confidence to reach his fifty. His innings also provided a solid foundation for the middle-order batters.
Cameron Green, the young all-rounder, continued his impressive form, repaying the faith asserted by the management. Alongside, Green, skipper Steve Smith, the experienced campaigner, anchored the innings with his trademark elegance. Smith's composed knock ensured stability in the chase, and his partnership with Cameron Green demonstrated a perfect combination of youth and experience.
Earlier, put into bat, West Indies were bowled out for a passable total of (231) with Xavier Bartlett chipping in with four wickets. Sean Abbott and Cameron Green also paired to return with two scalps each. Bartlett’s four-wicket haul played a crucial role in restricting the opposition to a manageable total, setting the stage for Australia's successful chase. With this win, Australia lead the three-match series 1-0.
