SL vs AFG 3rd T20I: Determined Afghanistan deny Sri Lanka complete whitewash

To end their frustrating tour on a positive note, Afghanistan pulled off a remarkable three-run victory against Sri Lanka in the third and final T20I on Wednesday in Dambulla, denying Sri Lanka a clean sweep in the series. Afghanistan resisted Sri Lanka’s brilliance across both departments, showcasing the competitive spirit to end the tour optimistically.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Afghanistan set a challenging target for Sri Lanka with openers Hazratullah Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz scoring (45) and (70), powering the team to (209). Aside from these two, Azmatullah Omarzai also landed a helping hand with his crucial (31) off (23). However, their middle-order batters faltered to make their contributions.
Chasing the total, Sri Lanka got off to a good start with in-form Pathum Nissanka scoring (60) before retiring hurt. Meanwhile, their middle-order batters went on to lose their wickets at regular intervals. However, batter Kamindu Mendis showcased resilience and determination, staging a remarkable comeback with his massive (65) off (39), but he could not find the required support from the other end, leaving Sri Lanka three runs short of victory.
Earlier in the series, Sri Lanka had dominated the series, winning the first two matches convincingly. However, Afghanistan, determined to salvage pride and end the series on a high note, came out with renewed vigor in the final game.
