PSL 2024: Lahore Qalandars cruise to their maiden victory

Putting an end to their losing streak, Lahore Qalandars emerged victorious against Islamabad United in the 23rd match of the ongoing Pakistan Super League, beating them by (17) runs on Wednesday at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This victory marks a significant turning point for the Lahore Qalandars as it was their maiden victory of the season after enduring six consecutive defeats.
Asked to bat, Lahore Qalandars couldnāt find a brisk start with openers Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman losing their wickets for (2) and (10) respectively. But, Rassie van der Dussen propped up the team with his 64-run knock. Due to the explosive innings from Rassie and little consolidation from Shaheen Afridi, who belted out four sixes in his 30-run knock, Qalandars reached a fighting total of 162/7 in (20) overs.
Chasing the total, Islamabad United faced an uphill task as they struggled to save their top-order batters who were losing their wickets at regular intervals. Players like Colin Munro (15), Alex Hales (0), Salman Ali Agha (4) and Shadab Khan (7) lost their wickets for the meagre scores. Lahore Qalandars' Zaman Khan displayed exceptional skill and precision, making scoring difficult for Islamabad while returning with four wickets. Shaheen Afridi chipped in with two wickets to bowl out Islamabad for (145) in (18.5) overs.
After a string of disappointments earlier in the season, Qalandars will be having some relief after having the first win of the season.
