IPL 2024: Matthew Wade to be unavailable for Titans for the opener

News

Gujarat Titans' batter Matthew Wade is set to miss the opening game of the team at the IPL 2024 in order to make himself available for domestic cricket. Wade will be playing for Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield final. Gujarat Titans' opening match at the IPL, which is on 24th March against Mumbai Indians, is slated to clash with the Shield final that will be played from March 21-25.

Tasmania's head coach also confirmed Wade's unavailability at the IPL for Gujarat Titans' opening game.

"He's spoken with his IPL franchise and they're happy to allow him to stay here, which probably equates to him potentially missing their first game," Jeff Vaughan told reporters in Hobart.

"We feel very fortunate to have someone of Matt's ilk coming back into our group, and his experience and his performances at the back end of our season."

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is scheduled to begin from 22nd March, and Gujarat Titans' opening game will be against Mumbai Indians on March (24). Gujarat Titans' second game is on March (26) against Chennai Super Kings. His availability for the second game could also be in doubts. Wade was also part of Gujarat Titans' title-winning XI in their inaugural season in 2022, scoring 157 runs in 10 games.
