Lucknow Super Giants clinched their first win of the ongoing Indian Premier League, beating Punjab Kings by (21) runs on Saturday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.

The star of the show was fast bowler Mayank Yadav, being incredibly impressive in his Indian Premier League debut. Mayank Yadav’s terrific spell restricted Punjab Kings to 178/5 in their chase of 199/8 set by Lucknow Super Giants after electing to bat.

Mayank Yadav didn’t feature for LSG in 2022 after being roped in by the franchise, and last year he was ruled out of the league due to a torn hamstring.

But, on Saturday night, Yadav returned with the figures of 3-27 from his four overs, putting an end to the swelling partnership between PBKS openers Jonny Bairstow and Shikhar Dhawan who stitched a 102-run stand off (70) deliveries. Yadav clocked the fastest delivery of IPL 2024 with the speed of 155.8 km per hour.

"I didn't really think it would go that well. I have always heard from the others that there can be some nervousness on debut. But after the first ball, all my nervousness faded away. Everyone said to not take too much pressure, just bowl on the stumps, and use the pace. That's what I did,” Mayank said at the post-match presentation.

The eye-popping performance from rookie Mayank Yadav compelled cricketing legends from all over the world to react to the marvellous performance. Australian legend Brett Lee was quick to praise young star.

“India has just found its fastest bowler. Mayank Yadav, Raw pace. Very impressive," stated Lee on his social media handle.
