Steve Smith joins Washington Freedom at MLC

Australian star Steve Smith is set to play for Washington Freedom in the second season of upcoming Major League Cricket (MLC). The batting supremo will link up with another Australian legend Ricky Ponting, who coaches Washington Freedom. Last year, Smith was named brand ambassador to Washington Freedom as well. 

"I'm super excited about joining the Washington Freedom ... I can't wait to meet all of my new teammates and play in front of some incredible crowds in America,” Smith said in a video posted on X. 

"I'm also really looking forward to working with Ricky Ponting again and his amazing staff. Can't wait for the season. Come on the Freedom!".

The second season of Major League Cricket will begin on July 4 after the conclusion of T20I World Cup 2024 that will be played in USA and West Indies from June 1.
