IPL 2024, RR vs PBKS: Sam Curran stars in Punjab’s consolation win

Late surge in bottom-placed Punjab Kings’ performance became too hard to contain for Rajasthan Royals after they were made to suffer their fourth straight loss on Wednesday in Guwahati. Yes, PBKS skipper Sam Curran starred in Punjab’s five-wicket victory over Royals, guiding the team past the target with his brilliant (63) unbeaten.
Punjab, in their chase of (144), recorded a poor start, with top-four batters finding it difficult to get going, however Rilee Rossouw, with the help of five boundaries, churned out (22) off (13). Down the order, Sam Curran stood out with his inspiring knock of (63*) to power the side to victory with seven balls to spare.
Rajasthan Royals, who have struggled to pump up, were restricted to 144/9 in (20) overs. Riyan Parag (48) was the bulwark for Rajasthan against Punjab’s resolute bowling attack. Sam Curran remained incredibly economical, returning with two wickets for (24) runs from his three overs.
Nathan Ellis, who had been warming the benches over the past few weeks, was brought into the proceedings as he made his impact right away with the crucial wicket of Sanju Samson. Royals are already through playoffs but their dream for top-two finish will only remain a dream after suffering fourth defeat on the bounce.
