Sandeep Lamichhane denied US visa for T20I World Cup, a big setback to Nepal
In a massive setback to his prospects of representing Nepal at the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024, legspinner Sandeep Lamichhane has been denied US visa for the upcoming T20I World Cup 2024 that will be played in USA and West Indies from June 1. Recently, Lamichhane was acquitted of rape charges as he was now looking to make his return to cricket. In September 2022, Lamichhane was suspended from cricket following the arrest warrant against him, but now after his acquittal he was in line to represent Nepal.
"And the @USEmbassyNepal did it again what they did back in 2019, they denied my Visa for the T-20 World Cup happening in USA and West Indies. Unfortunate. I am sorry to all the well wishers of Nepal Cricket. @USAmbNepal @CricketNep," Lamichhane posted on X (previously twitter).
Lamichhane was expected to link up with Nepal squad for their warm-up game against Canada but it all remains in doubts. Nepal will be playing their two Group D games in the USA. They will play against Netherlands in Dallas and Sri Lanka in Florida respectively.
