IPL 2024, RCB vs RR Eliminator: RCB crash out of IPL 2024 after defeat to RR

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s quest for maiden IPL title will go on, with their campaign at the IPL 2024 coming to a heartbreaking end after suffering their defeat against Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator on Wednesday at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals with their victory advanced to the Qualifier 2 of the tournament. RCB's exit from playoffs also brought an end to their six-match winning streak.
Chasing down a formidable total of (172) in (19) overs, RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the foundation, getting the team off to a steady start, and playing a blazing knock of (45) runs. Meanwhile, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Sanju Samson could only manage to get (20) and (17) respectively. But, Riyan Parag remained the mainstay of the team, cracking much-needed (36) off (26).
Parag’s innings was well-supported by Shimron Hetmyer, who fired (26) off (14) to bring back the stability into RR’s chase. Sadly, both players couldn’t take the team home after being dismissed by Mohammed Siraj, but West Indies’ destructive batter Rovaman Powell blasted (16*) off (8), including two boundaries and a six, to launch RR to a four-wicket victory with six balls to spare.
Earlier, in a do-or-die scenario, RCB posted a competitive score of (172) in (20) overs after being asked to bat. RCB’s innings was rife with average performances as none of their top-order batters could score big. Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar and Mahipal Lomror were the top-scorers, making (33), (34) and (32) respectively to carry the side to a fighting score.
