With Chennai Super Kings, young and destructive batter Shivam Dube has only flourished under the guidance of head coach Stephen Fleming and veteran wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni. The talented batter’s pulsating skills with bat have played a notable role for CSK in the middle-order, ravaging high-class bowlers. It’s not just about his batting, his bowling too has been incredibly handy. In the recently culminated IPL, Shivam Dube scored 396 runs across 14 games that also included three half-centuries.

On the back of his performance in the IPL, Dude made the cut into India’s T20I World Cup squad. In the lead up to their World Cup campaign, India played a warm-up match, which was against Bangladesh, where Dube got the opportunity to bowl and returned with two wickets. Speaking on Dube’s performance, CSK head coach and former New Zealand player Stephen Fleming underlined the similarities between Dube and legendary Kapil Dev.

“If his bowling is the way he talks about, he is like Kapil Dev. He’s been working really hard. He worked hard through the IPL. We had a number of players who do that all-round role, and again, with the impact player role, it actually diminishes the role of an all-rounder or a part-time bowler who bats well, which is a bit of a shame,” Fleming said on ESPNcricinfo.

“He’s been doing his bowling, he has had his loads up. He can be awkward in the right conditions, which you would say would be a little bit slow, which his cutters and change of pace could play a part, he can play a part. He can do a job and he’s worked very hard on it,” he added.
