IND vs BAN 1st Test day 1 Stumps: Special knocks from Ashwin, Jadeja lead India’s recovery
Experienced Ravichandaran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja led India’s recovery on day one of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai on Thursday after top-order failed to give a blazing start to the team. The special knocks from R Ashwin (102*) and Jadeja (86*) proved to be crucial on a bowler-dominated day as India finished the day one with (339) for the loss of six wickets.
Earlier, Bangladesh’s decision to bowl first turned out to be quite fruitful, with Hasan Mahmud vindicating the decision by dismissing India’s solid batters Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. India faced a formidable challenge from Bangladesh bowlers who remained precisely effective in their attack. The Indian batting lineup, traditionally dangerous in home conditions, crumbled under pressure, losing their top-order batters in quick succession.
The day began with high hopes for the Indian team, but it quickly deteriorated as they lost key players Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli within the early overs. All three batters fell victim to Bangladesh’s incisive bowling attack, leaving the team in a troubling position.
Amidst the disappointment, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, emerged as a beacon of hope for India, clouting a commendable 56-run knock, and providing some stability in an otherwise faltering innings.
For Bangladesh, the standout performer was Hasan Mahmud, whose brilliant spell dismantled the Indian batting lineup. Mahmud's accuracy earned him four crucial wickets, putting India on the backfoot early on in the innings.
