“The final call will always be the captain’s call”: Gautam Gambhir on working with Rohit Sharma

Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has applauded Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, calling him a great guy. Gautam Gambhir recently took over as Indian head coach and will oversee India’s Test series against Bangladesh.
This will be the first series for Gautam Gambhir as head coach in the longest format. The bonding between both coach and captain will be instrumental in team’s success, however Gambhir believes that at the end of the day team belongs to the captain. Gambhir emphasised that there will be disagreements but it will be the captain who will take the final call.
"We've had a quite a lot of conversations. I have always been a big believer when I was playing when I was mentoring that it is always the captain’s team. Because it’s the captain that leads the team on the field. Yes, me and the entire support staff are there to help the team, help the captain in whatever capacity that we can and there will be times when obviously we’ll have disagreements on a lot of things. But then ultimately, the final call will always be the captain’s call because he is the general there," Gambhir said on Jio Cinema.
Gambhir has joined team India on the back of a massive success with Kolkata Knight Riders, who lifted the IPL 2024 title under his mentorship. Gambhir has a big role to play as India are also scheduled to play New Zealand and Australia in their upcoming Tests after Bangladesh series.
