Afghanistan ravage PNG, eliminate New Zealand

New Zealand’s campaign at the T20I World Cup has come to a sad end after Afghanistan ravaged Papua New Guinea on Friday in Trinidad to qualify for the Super Eight stage of the tournament. Afghanistan’s stunning performance fetched them a seven-wicket victory.
Pinned to bat PNG’s top-order struggled to find their rhythm against Afghanistan's superior bowling attack. Fazalhaq Farooqi took three wickets after giving away 16 runs. PNG scrambled their way through Afghanistan’s incredible bowling attack to reach 95 in 19.5 overs. Afghanistan bowlers continued to mount pressure on PNG batters, taking wickets at regular intervals and bowling the team out for 95. This was the third straight defeat for Papua New Guinea, who have struggled all along.
In reply, Afghanistan batter Gulbadin Naib hammered 49, making full use of the reprieve on 9, being dropped behind the wickets. Afghanistan reached the target in 15.1 overs, scoring 101 for the loss of three wickets. Afghan openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran didn’t make any impact with their scores of 11 and 0 respectively.
Meanwhile, New Zealand have two more games to play in the tournament against Uganda and Papua New Guinea but those two fixtures will be the dead-rubber for them. The upcoming games will be on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.
