Kyle Mayers replaces injured King at West Indies

West Indies opening batter Brandon King has been ruled out of the ongoing T20I World Cup tournament due to a side strain that he picked up during West Indies’ match against England. To replace king, West Indies have called Kyle Mayers for the rest of the tournament. 

"The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has officially approved left-handed batter Kyle Mayers as a replacement for Brandon King in the West Indies squad," an ICC release read. 

“The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Johnny Grave (CEO, Cricket West Indies) and Kass Naidoo (Independent Representative).”

Mayers, who has played 37 T20Is,  is expected to join the squad on Saturday. West Indies’ next match is against South Africa on Sunday.
