The first semi-final of the ongoing T20I World Cup will be played on Thursday (6:00 AM IST) between South Africa and Afghanistan at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba. This matchup promises to be a fascinating encounter, with both teams having demonstrated remarkable performances and riding a huge wave of momentum. 

Afghanistan's journey to the semi-final has been particularly noteworthy and inspirational. They clinched their spot in this crucial stage by securing a win against Bangladesh, marking a historic moment in their cricketing journey. Afghanistan remained resolute in their pursuit of victory against Bangladesh, thrashing them by 8 runs (DLS) to seal their spot in the semi-final of the tournament. This is Afghanistan’s maiden appearance in the semi-final of the T20I World Cup

On the other hand, South Africa have been a consistent and formidable force in the competition. Proteas overcame West Indies to book their place into the semi-final of the tournament. They eliminated co-hosts West Indies with their staggering performance and sealed their spot in the semi-final. In a tense chase, Marco Jansen emerged as a saviour for South Africa, knocking off 21 off 14 balls to take the team over the line in the rain-curtailed match. South Africa have fought hard and lived up to the expectations, delivering strong performances in the group stages. 

As South Africa and Afghanistan prepare to clash in the semi-final 1, both teams will look to continue their dream run and leverage the momentum from their past victories.
