Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has revealed that he is retiring from T20 internationals. The decisions comes after India downed South Africa in the final of the T20I World Cup 2024 to lift the title for the second time after winning the inaugural title in 2007. Rohit Sharma however maintained that he will continue to play ODIs and Tests.

"This was my last [T20I] game as well. No better time to say goodbye to this format. I've loved every moment of this. I started my India career playing this format. This is what I wanted, I wanted to win the cup,”  Rohit said at the press conference after the final.

Rohit Sharma signs off the format as the highest scorer with 4,231 runs in 159 matches. Rohit Sharma has struck five centuries and 32 half-centuries in this format. He holds the record for most centuries in this format. Rohit Sharma was also part of the Indian squad that won the inaugural T20I World Cup title in 2007.

Team India ended their title drought after the victory as it marked India’s first major title victory since winning the ODI World Cup title in 2011. Rohit Sharma was incredibly ecstatic as India held their nerve to beat proteas in the final. Speaking on the victory, Rohit Sharma termed it 'The Greatest Moment'.

"This has to be the greatest time, I can say that. It's only because how desperately I wanted to win this. So, all the runs, all the runs that I've scored in all these years, I think it does matter, but I'm not big on stats and all of that. I think winning games for India, winning trophies for India, that is what I look forward to all the time. And having this now right beside me probably has to be, I don't know, honestly, I don't know if it's the greatest or what but it is definitely one of the greatest, I can say that."
