Veteran pacer expresses shock over Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli’s T20I retirement
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, two stalwarts of Indian cricket, announced their retirements from T20 Internationals, sending shockwaves across the cricketing world. Both veterans have been instrumental in India’s success in the shortest format of the game over the years, contributing significantly with their massive talent.
After India’s T20I World Cup victory, both the players decided to bow out of the T20 International. After thirteen years, India broke the drought and lifted the major World Cup title. India won the T20I World Cup title with the victory against South Africa in the final. The retirement of both Rohit and Kohli marks the end of an era for Indian T20 cricket. Reacting to their retirement, Indian veteran pacer Mohammed Shami expressed shock saying the vacuum left by them will take a lot of time to be filled.
“The retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is was a shock. They have been stalwarts for India, delivering outstanding performances for the country for 15-16 years and earning their titles as kings of white-ball cricket. Both retiring simultaneously is shocking, but it’s part of the natural cycle—when one player leaves, another steps in. However, replacing such stars in the team will be a significant challenge,” said Shami.
“Bidding goodbye to a journey after achieving your goal is a truly emotional moment. I would like to thank both Rohit and Virat for winning matches for the team, playing amazing innings for India, and breaking records along the way,” he added.
