Kohli was speaking at the felicitation ceremony organised by BCCI at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Upon their return from Barbados after winning the T20I World Cup 2024, team India were greeted to a sparkling welcome by thousands of passionate fans during the team's victory parade from Marine Drive to Wankhede Stadium in an open-top bus.
"Like everyone in the stadium [here], we also felt at one point if it is going to slip away again, but what happened in those [last] five overs was truly, truly special. You know what I'd like everyone to do is applaud a guy who brought us back into games again and again and again in this tournament. What he did in those last five overs, bowling two out of the last five overs, it was phenomenal. A huge round of applause for Jasprit Bumrah, please."
Jasprit Bumrah finished the tournament with 15 wickets to his name and his priceless contribution in the final against South Africa stood out, putting India back into the game with his fierce spells. India recorded their major World Cup title victory after 13 years, having failed repeatedly on past occasions.
