In a dominating display of performance, Indian Women outperformed Pakistan Women by seven wickets in their opening match of the T20 Asia Cup 2024 on Friday at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla. India’s comprehensive win on the back of a powerful all-round performance has set the tone for the rest of the tournament.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, Pakistan Women faced a fierce Indian bowling attack led by Deepti Sharma, who took three wickets. India were bolstered by the early breakthroughs with Pooja Vastrakar sending back Pakistan openers Gull Feroza and Muneeba Ali. Indian bowlers were relentless, applying constant pressure and making early inroads into Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Pakistan’s all batters struggled to find any rhythm, with early wickets falling cheaply. Sidra Ameen was the top-scorer with her (25), while Tuba Hassan (22) and Fatima Sana (22*) gave major impetus down the order to take the side to (108) in (19.2) overs.

Chasing 109 for victory, Indian openers gave the team a thumping start as Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana blazed (40) and (45) respectively. The opening partnership laid a solid foundation, scoring briskly and putting Pakistan on the back foot. In the middle, Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues remained unbeaten on (5) and (3) respectively as India raced to a big win.
