In a thrilling final of the Women’s T20I Asia Cup, Sri Lanka Women outplayed India Women by 8 wickets to clinch their first-ever Asia Cup title on Sunday at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla.  India, deciding to bat, put up a formidable total of 165 runs after Smriti Mandhana stepped up with her 60-run knock amid the failure from other batters.

India’s innings faltered after their solid top-order batters failed to make their mark in this crucial encounter. Losing early wickets, India were put under pressure early on, however Smriti Mandhana managed to brave Sri Lankan bowlers and helped India set a challenging target for Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka, facing the daunting task of chasing 166, started off on a dull note with opener Vishmi Gunaratne losing her wicket for (1). Meanwhile, their skipper, who truly turned the tide in Lanka’s favour, played a resilient knock of 61. Harshitha Samarawickrama also led from the front, firing a match-winning knock of 69 unbeaten, to guide the team to their first-ever title win.
