“We need to look into it”: Rohit Sharma after India’s series defeat

In a depressing turn of events, India failed to level the ODI series against Sri Lanka, losing the third match by 110 runs and ultimately the series 0-2. Throughout the series, India’s batting order has found itself struggling majorly against spinners, a negative aspect that became glaringly evident in their performances.

In the third ODI, Sri Lanka’s spin attack effectively dismantled India’s batting order. Indian batsmen found themselves unable to handle the top-notch spin, leading to frequent wickets. This consistent pressure resulted in a series of collapses that India could not recover from. Since 1997, this was India’s first ODI series loss against Sri Lanka. Speaking on India’s defeat, skipper Rohit Sharma underlined India’s struggle and touched upon India's spin challenge.

"I don't think it's a concern. But it's something we need to look at seriously, into our individual game plans. We were definitely put under pressure throughout the series. We need to look into it, need to talk about it and come back with different plans," Rohit said in the post-match presentation.

Asked whether India were complacent in the wake of T20I World Cup victory, "It's a joke. When you're playing for India, there's no complacency as long as I am here captaining the team. It's not going to be the case. You come out here trying to win every game, give your best and find answers, but yes, we were outplayed throughout the series. You've got to give credit where it's due, Sri Lanka played better cricket than us."
