Rain washes out 1st T20I between Australia and India

The first T20I between Australia and India on Wednesday at the Manuka Oval in Canberra was abandoned due to persistent rain after just 9.4 overs of the first innings. India, asked to bat, began with intent, racing to 97 for 1 before the weather intervened. The match was called off after incessant rainfall showed no sign of letting up.
Opening the batting, the Indian side saw promising contributions from Shubman Gill, who was unbeaten on 37 from 20 balls, including four boundaries and a six, alongside skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who was not out on 39 off 24, with three boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Abhishek Sharma departed for 19 off 14 balls, having hit four boundaries. It all ended in disappointment as India had looked in good touch to post a competitive total. Moreover, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who has struggled to get going, was in supreme form. Meanwhile, the second T20I will be held on Friday at MCG.
