Stokes to remain out of action for rest of the summer

England Test skipper Ben Stokes has been ruled out of England’s series against Sri Lanka due to a torn hamstring, thus missing the rest of the summer. Stokes sustained the injury while batting for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred tournament on Sunday. Stokes was carried off the filed due to the injury and was later seen on clutches. 

The ECB, in a statement, said, Stokes will be aiming to return for England’s Test tour of Pakistan, that is scheduled to be played in October. Opener Zak Crawley is also targeting Pakistan tour after being ruled out of the Sri Lanka series due to a finger injury. Now, in Stokes’ absence, batter Ollie Pope (vice-captain), will be leading England against Sri Lanka. 

Last year in November, Stokes also underwent knee surgery to get himself ready for the West Indies and Sri Lanka series. Due to Test assignments, Stokes had also pulled out of England’s T20I World Cup campaign in June. .
