“On par with an Ashes series”: Mitchell Starc on Border Gavaskar Trophy

For the first time in over three decades, fiercely-contested Border Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India will be a five-match affair as Australia bid to pin down highly competitive Indian side for the first time in ten years to reclaim the title. Australia have been unsuccessful in claiming the Border Gavaskar Trophy since 2014-15, with India claiming the trophy for four consecutive times.
India will be travelling to Australia in November to participate in the highly anticipated series. Australia’s leading pacer Mitchell Starc believes that Border Gavaskar Trophy is on par with the Ashes.
“Being five matches now it’s probably right on par with an Ashes series. We always want to win every game at home and we know India are a very strong team,” Starc told Wide World of Sports.
“As we’re placed at the minute we’re the top two teams on the Test ladder… so a very exciting series coming up for the fans and certainly the players."
During the 2023 edition of the series, India won it by 2-1. However, the challenge will be there for India in Australia as they hope to extend their winning streak.
“Hopefully when we’re sitting there on the 8th of January we have that trophy back on our shores,” Starc said.
