Rashid Khan unavailable for One-Off Test against New Zealand
Afghanistan’s star spinner Rashid khan will not be taking part in the upcoming one-off Test match against New Zealand, scheduled to be played in Greater Noida from September 9 to 13, on medical advice. This is a great setback for Afghanistan. He was also not part of the 20-member preliminary squad recently named by Afghanistan.
"Following Rashid Khan's back operation last year, his doctors advised him to refrain from participating in long-format cricket, which is Test cricket, for one year," Afghanistan Cricket Board's Chief Executive Naseeb Khan said, as per Cricbuzz.
"We are hoping that he will available for the two Tests against Zimbabwe in December," he said.
Notably, Rashid Khan, after the ODI World Cup 2023, had missed a lot of matches for Afghanistan due to a lower back surgery, which he underwent after the World Cup. However, he made his return to action, leading Afghanistan at the T20I World Cup 2024 in the USA and Caribbean.
Afghanistan’s preliminary Test squad: Hashmatullah Shahidi (c), Ibrahim Zadran, Riaz Hassan, Abdul Malik, Rahmat Shah, Baheer Shah Mahboob, Ikram Alikhel (wk), Shahidullah Kamal, Gulbadin Naib, Afsar Zazai (wk), Azmatullah Omarzai, Ziaurrahman Akbar, Shamsurrahman, Qais Ahmad, Zahir Khan, Nijat Masoud, Farid Ahmad Malik, Naveed Zadran, Khalil Ahmad and Yama Arab.
