South Africa rest key figures as they name squads for Afghanistan and Ireland series

South Africa have decided to rest their top-grade players for their upcoming tour of UAE where they will play Afghanistan and Ireland in T20I and ODI games. In the absence of seasoned players, South Africa have included new names in their squad.
Regular players like Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Marco Jansen, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Gerald Coetzee have been rested. South Africa will be led by Temba Bavuma in ODIs and Aiden Markram will be captaining the side in T20Is. Allrounder Jason Smith and spinner Nqaba Peter, who have already played T20Is, are in line to make their ODI debuts.
Aiden Markram, Reeza Hendricks and will only play in ODIs against Afghanistan, while Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton will only play in ODIs against Ireland. Lungi Ngidi has been added to all three squads as he is set to lead South Africa's pace attack.
“We have decided to give opportunities to some of the fringe players as well as those who have impressed in recent weeks and months," South Africa's white-ball coach, Rob Walter said.
“This has been a deliberate move from management, in line with our goal of building a wider pool of players to choose from, as we prepare for the major ICC tournaments taking place over the next 18 months, with a long-term view on the 50-over World Cup in 2027."
