ENG vs SL 3rd Test: Sri Lanka romp to consolation win

In a thrilling conclusion to their Test series against England, Sri Lanka managed to upset the host in the third and final Test, securing a consolation victory on Monday at The Oval. Sri Lanka overcame England by eight wickets, thanks largely to a stellar performance by Pathum Nissanka, who blazed (127) unbeaten to help Lanka chase 219-run target.
England, having already secured the series with victories in the first two Tests, were eyeing a series sweep. However, Sri Lanka’s resilience and grit were evident as they fought hard in the final Test. It was Sri Lanka’s first Test win in England since 2014.
Pathum Nissanka’s innings of (127) not out was marked by utter calm, allowing Sri Lanka to successfully chase down the target in (25.4) overs. Despite Sri Lanka’s triumph in the final Test, the series belonged to England, who had demonstrated their dominance over the first two games.
Looking at the whole picture, England scored (325) after being asked to bat on day one, with Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope scoring (86) and (154) in England’s first innings. Sri Lanka, in reply, scored (263) in their first innings. England, in their second innings were bowled out for (156), with Jamie Smith being the solitary top-scorer with (67).
