Sri Lanka have named a 16-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand, with batter Oshada Fernando returning to the side following an 18-month absence. Nisala Tharaka and Kasun Rajitha, who both were part of Sri Lanka’s Test series against England recently, have been left out of the squad.

There was also no place for batter Nishan Madushka. Madushka didn’t have a great showing during Sri Lanka’s tour of England, registering the scores of 4, 0, 7 and 13 respectively in the first two Tests. He was dropped out of the XI for the third game.

Dhananjaya de Silva will be leading the side, with whole host of experienced players like Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal and Kamindu Mendis featuring in the squad. Both Test matches will be played in Galle. The first Test will begin on September 18.

Sri Lanka Squad: Dhananjaya de Silva (c), Dimuth Karunaratne, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Kamindu Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Oshada Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Vishwa Fernando, Lahiru Kumara, Prabath Jayasuriya, Ramesh Mendis, Jeffrey Vandersay, Milan Rathnayake
