IND vs BAN 2nd Test day 5: India sweep series, demolish Bangladesh
There was not a single moment when India didn’t dominate Bangladesh throughout the Test series, and therefore, they were able to complete the series sweep by thrashing Bangladesh by seven wickets in the second Test match on Tuesday in Kanpur. The second Test match was marked by weather disruptions, with heavy rain preventing play on the second and third days, but India hell-bent on winning put up a marvellous performance to decimate Bangladesh.
On the fourth day (Monday), Bangladesh resumed their first innings, having managed to score only (107) runs on the opening day as rain had forced early stumps. On day four, they struggled against the Indian bowling attack and were bowled out for (233). Mominul Haque was the top-scorer for Bangladesh with (107) unbeaten.
In response, India started their innings aggressively, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal firing on all cylinders. They declared at (285) for (9), setting a sizeable lead and putting Bangladesh under pressure. Down the order, Indian batsmen Virat Kohli (47) and Kl Rahul (68) showed their intent, ensuring India remained in control of the match.
In their second innings, Bangladesh faced a challenging task, managing to only muster (146) runs, setting India a modest target of 95 runs. In their chase, Indian batters again came out with same intent, with Yashasvi Jaiswal firing his half-century. India reached the victory score in (17.2) overs, losing three wickets along the way to secure victory. India scored (98) runs with Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant unbeaten on (29) and (4) respectively.
