Root shatters Alastair Cook’s record to become England’s all-time leading scorer
In a bolstering turn of events during England’s ongoing first Test against Pakistan, veteran batter Joe Root has etched his name into the annals of cricket history by surpassing legendary batter Alastair Cook to become England's all-time leading scorer in Test cricket. Root has been in supreme form lately, turning heads with his terrific performances.
Root reached this landmark achievement during a challenging innings, showcasing his trademark composure. Joe Root’s blasting achievement came when he reached 71 during the morning session on day three of the first Test. Last month, Root also overtook Alaistair Cook for the most Test hundreds by an England batter during Sri Lanka Tests.
Alastair Cook during his career played 161 Tests and piled up 12,472 runs. By breaking Cook’s record, Root has also risen to the fifth spot in the list of batters with most runs in Test cricket. Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar is the leading scorer in Test cricket.
