"That is a stupid shot": Fuming Gavaskar lashes out at Rishabh Pant

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has taken a strong stance against wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for his poor shot selection during the morning session of day three of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Gavaskar expressed disappointment at Pant's dismissal as India were already in huge trouble. Pant, who had shown promising intent with his fearless stroke play, fell victim to an ill-timed scoop shot. Attempting to flick a delivery from outside the off-stump to the leg side, Pant was caught by Nathan Lyon off Scott Boland. Reacting to the dismissal, Sunil Gavaskar did not mince words and slammed Pant.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid! You've got two fielders there, and you still go for that, you've missed the previous shot. And look where you've been caught. You've been caught at deep third man. That is throwing away your wicket. Not in the situation that India was. You have to understand the situation as well, you cannot say that that's your natural game. I'm sorry, that is not your natural game. That is a stupid shot. That is letting your team down badly!," Gavaskar said during the commentary.
Pant's dismissal not only halted India's momentum but also gave the opposition a much-needed breakthrough. However, thanks to Nitish Kumar Reddy, whose maiden century dragged India back into the series. At stumps, India were 358/9.
