Ahead of the blockbuster Champions Trophy, Afghanistan have enlisted the expertise of Pakistan legend Younis Khan as a mentor for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. Carrying a wealth of experience, Younis Khan has represented Pakistan in 118 Tests, 265 ODIs and 25 T20Is.
Younis also captained Pakistan to the T20I World Cup victory in 2009. Khan retired from international cricket in 2017. Khan's availability will bring diverse perspectives to Afghanistan's preparations. He, meanwhile, has already worked with Afghanistan, serving as their batting coach in 2022.
“Since the Champions Trophy is being held in Pakistan, it was required to assign a talented and experienced player as mentor from the hosting country," Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Mr. Naseeb Khan said
"We already had efficient experience with hosting countries’ mentors in ODI World Cup 2023 and T20I World Cup 2024.
"Observing the conditions, therefore, we have appointed Younis Khan as mentor for our national team for the upcoming mega event and wish him best of the luck in his crucial assignment.”
Champions Trophy will begin from February 19 with the clash between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi.
