"It hurt": Steve Smith on not being able to bring up 10,000 Test runs

Australian batting supremo Steve Smith returned to his best in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India, registering his first century since June 2023. Smith was in searing form, putting big scores. Despite performing impressively, Smith failed to reach the 10,000 Test runs after falling one run short of the landmark.
Smith, who scored 314 runs in the series, said that it 'hurt' after missing out on reaching the milestone. Smith lost his wicket for four in his second innings of the Sydney Test, falling one run short of the milestone.
"One run. it hurt a little bit at the time. It would have been nice to have ticked that off in front of all my friends and family here at my home ground, but hopefully, I can knock it off first thing in Galle (Sri Lanka, first Test). I probably let it wander (in my mind) too much throughout the game. It's a cool milestone to tick off," Smith told Sydney Morning Herald.
Steve Smith is now gearing up to lead Australia in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Smith steps up to captain the side in the absence of Pat Cummins, who is on leave for the birth of his second child.
